Some of our favorite projects at Maiden Stone are the ones where the property blends almost seamlessly into its natural environment, allowing for the stone to live its best life.
This was the case for a unique, sprawling property in the wine country, just outside of St. Helena, Calif. The two-year home renovation was spearheaded by designer Dan Fink and architect Carl Baker of Ike Kligerman Barkley, who worked with the homeowners – two San Francisco-based tech executives – to create a weekend escape among the vines.
As featured in VERANDA’s December 2021 issue, every detail of the four-bedroom ranch house was designed with its surroundings in mind, right down to the cinnabar colors on the family room sofas and ottoman that, according to Fink, “evoke the magical golden hour there.”
“The owners wanted to break the mold of the quintessential wine country home and have a more modern feeling,” Fink told VERANDA.
While no small detail went unnoticed in reimagining this Napa Valley retreat, the larger design elements like the Belgian Blue Limestone floors in the great room addition help set the overall tone of the relaxed home.

Sepia Dark Limestone was used on the exterior as the team was looking for a “warm grey” with a rustic feeling.
Other property highlights include the 42-foot swimming pool and multiple theaters for outdoor entertaining and relaxing. Landscape designer Elaine Shaw worked in collaboration with Baker to make the home feel like a true escape from the city. Lush olive trees, tall grasses, and native wildflowers are all set against a vineyard backdrop and can be seen from multiple vantage points within the home.
