Nestled in San Francisco’s picturesque Half Moon Bay, Coastal Retreat is a breathtaking wood cottage that exemplifies a commitment to quality and innovative design. This project features our highly sought-after Black Conte Basalt, a durable material known for its versatility and stunning finishes.
Notably, this was our first project featuring Black Conte Basalt used as a driveway, adding an element of elegance to the landscape. This material not only elevates the aesthetic appeal but also performs remarkably well. It shines without any efflorescence.
The driveway’s retaining wall is a standout feature, designed with an exceptional ombre effect, facilitating a seamless transition between the structure and its natural surroundings.

Inside, white granite was selected for the interior and back patio, ensuring a cohesive design that complements the exterior. At Maiden Stone, we assisted the team with the shop drawing process. This approach, typically handled by the installer, allowed us to supply a unique flooring where the stone in every room was perfectly aligned and avoided any narrow pieces.
Our enduring partnership with Walker Warner and Lutsko Associates has been pivotal in bringing this vision to life.

Stone Spotlight: Black Conte Basalt
Complex in color with subtle notes of charcoal and brown woven throughout, Black Conte Basalt is a stand-out among other black stones. This unexpected, yet harmonious color range allows Black Conte to contrast and complement a wide variety of other building materials, while a diverse range of available finish options further deepens its mercurial nature. Excellent for use as an architectural veneer, Black Conte is also well-suited for paving, cobbles, and cut-to-size applications.
